Wikipedia- Apollo 6, launched on April 4, 1968, was the second A-type mission of the United States Apollo program, an unmanned test of the Saturn V launch vehicle. It was also the final unmanned Apollo test mission.

Or so we thought.

April 4, 1968-

This was the day of the launch of Apollo 6- the last unmanned mission to circle Earth.  It wasn't well advertised, as it was just a test of basic equipment preparing for the big launch- Apollo 11, which was going to the moon.  Only one thing was out of place- it wasn't unmanned.  And it wasn't a final test of the Saturn V rocket engine.  Just a few people were briefed on the real mission of Apollo 6.

Lt. Colonel John Emmerson, USAF, Lt. Colonel Cris Coleman, USAF, and Captain Jason Olson, USN were all secretly assigned to man this "unmanned mission," chosen for their expertise, skills, and ability to bravely endure in the face of certain death.  On a one-way trip to an uninhabitable planet, the POTUS (President of the United States) sent them to answer the call to come to Mars.  And unknown to anybody, they would answer the question of what happened to a whole civilization that disappeared over 4500 years ago that disappeared without a trace!  The future of mankind depended upon these three, and no even knew their names.

They were left to die in the infinite expanse of space- unknown, abandoned, and forgotten.

This is their story.
